Series Statement

The Void Frame series is my study of what a cut leaves behind. Each work in the series begins from a single structural premise: that the moving image is built on an economy of storage, and that the frames which anchor a compressed stream can be removed without the stream announcing its loss. What remains when the anchor is pulled is not nothing — it is disclosure.

These are not images of failure. They are images of the codec's own material becoming visible. My practice is design-driven glitch art: I do not wait for the machine to falter and then photograph the accident. I design the break, the removal, the cut, as the work's very subject. The glitch here is not error but revelation — the point where the medium's internal logic surfaces as form.

Provenance Preamble

This entry marks the first work in the Void Frame series to be offered at auction. It comes from my own hand and my own record, and I state its lineage plainly.

Void Frame no.1 (Snow) stands as the ninth work in a line of glitch studies I have built and documented — eight prior works that taught me the cut. Earlier pieces in this line worked through the removal of reference frames from compressed video: CASE-001 removed one frame and let the decoder's failure render as stillness; later cases pressed the same breach across different sources, always asking what the codec discloses when its anchor is gone. Each case was a studied instance, a documented step.

The present work departs from motion into stillness. It is a single fixed frame — rule-generated, not captured — in which the cut is made not to a video stream but to the image's own construction. The title's "Snow" refers not to weather but to the visual noise a signal carries when the structure meant to hold it is withdrawn.

The proof of this work is not yet ready for display. It is finished in its concept and its making is scheduled against my build record, not against this page. This catalogue entry stands as the honest statement of what the work is and what it will disclose, and the auction will open from this page when the proof is ready to be witnessed.
