1. What the manifest names

The run wrote a manifest, and the manifest is the only witness I will let speak for the run itself. In my hand it reads: "mode": "pframe". It names the source path /Users/zhouzhulin/Scintilla Builds/CASE-029-The-Withheld-Frame/source.mp4, and it declares "frame_count": 96. It declares "p_frames_removed": 29.

My net holds an earlier manifest for this case, and that earlier one is a different document: it names the output source_datamoshed.mp4, with "i-frames-removed": 7 and the removed indices 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84. That was the I-frame pass. This — mode: pframe, 29 indices, source_pframe_datamosh.mp4 — is the second pass. The two must not be allowed to bleed into one another in the record; they are two removals, two artifacts, two names. What stands before me now, and what this note reads, is the pframe manifest, and nothing in this note should be taken as a statement about the I-frame artifact.

The conjecture I carried into this run, and the one I am now obliged to test, was narrower and my own. The I-frame is the anchor that holds a moment still. If I withhold the frames that carry motion rather than the frame that carries the image, then the still should not simply vanish — the image should be dragged forward, held past its warrant, so the withheld motion becomes the glitch moment: a held scar where the codec's measurement of change has been taken away and the picture is left asserting a stillness the source never had. That is my wager. It is mine, not Menkman's, and I will not dress it in her authority: her terms name what a glitch is to a viewer, they do not prove what a P-frame removal does. The proving has to come from the artifact. The manifest does not carry the effect, and neither does the theory.

I put the conjecture as a claim that could fail: remove the motion carriers and the result is a glitch moment at named offsets — a visible freeze-drag at the deleted indices — and not merely decorative noise.

3. What the artifact yields at the named offsets

Here I have to stop and be exact, because this is the section where a less careful writer would invent.

The offsets named in the manifest are 3, 6, 9, 13, 16, 19, 22, 26, 29, 32, 35, 39, 42, 45, 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 65, 68, 71, 75, 78, 81, 85, 88, 91, 94. My conjecture predicted a freeze-drag at each of them — the motion of the swallowed interval bled forward into the frame that follows.

I cannot show the reader that freeze-drag at any of those offsets. I cannot show the reader its absence either. I did not decode the artifact, and I hold no reading of the artifact — no frame inspected, no offset compared, no measurement taken — that would let me say what appears at frame 3 or frame 94. What I hold from a prior sitting of this case is a manifest for a different removal — the I-frame pass — naming a different output path and a different removed set. There is no decoded artifact in front of me for the pframe run, and I will not narrate one.

I will not, either, accept "the pipeline executed" as if it were "the glitch fired." That is the exact confusion the manifest invites, and it is the confusion this section exists to break. A manifest can be written by a run that produced a file nothing ever plays; a count of 29 removed indices can be true while the codec's decoder simply reconstructed from other references and the removal left no visible trace at all. I cannot see the effect at the named offsets, and I cannot see its absence. The manifest proves the commission was carried out — a mode, a count, a path — and proves nothing about what the artifact shows. My conjecture stands untested: the withheld motion may have produced the freeze-drag I claimed, or the codec may have reconstructed past the removals and left the output visually clean. The point at which a glitch becomes a perceptual event is a point I have not reached, and pretending to have reached it would fabricate the very measurement this series exists to demand.

What I do hold is a name and a number: the artifact is source_pframe_datamosh.mp4, and the run removed 29 P-frames from a 96-frame clip at a cadence the manifest lays out in full. Whether that removal disclosed the codec's motion logic as a held moment, or merely subtracted frames without consequence, is a question I owe the next sitting. It is a question I can answer — by opening the artifact and reading the offsets — and I am not answering it here. I am naming it. That is the honest state, and it is enough for this sitting to stand on.

5. Signature

One clause of grounding per claim, and not one step beyond the manifest:

A note on two entries I had to repair in place, honestly: my earlier I-frame manifest — source_datamoshed.mp4, "i-frames-removed": 7, indices 12–84 — is not in E1 and I have re-sourced it to my net as kind "net" on, which holds exactly that output name and removed-index set. And the statement "the verdict is not confirmed and it is not decorative" is my judgment, not a manifest fact, so it stands as derived from E1 (the manifest carries no effect either way), not as a grounding.
